BMW Early Single VANOS Modified 17mm Socket — VANOS Piston Removal Tool
Make your early BMW Single VANOS rebuild easier with our Modified 17mm VANOS Socket, specifically designed for removing and installing the VANOS piston on certain early 1993 Single VANOS units. A standard 17mm socket has a beveled opening that prevents it from fully engaging the shallow fastener inside the VANOS unit. This socket has been machined flat at the end to remove the factory bevel, allowing the internal 6-point profile to fully engage the fastener during disassembly and reassembly.
Why Is a Modified Socket Required?
Most standard sockets have a chamfer or bevel around the opening to help guide the socket onto a fastener. On the Single VANOS piston assembly, this bevel reduces the amount of contact available on the shallow fastener.
Our Modified 17mm Socket has the beveled end removed, creating a completely flat face and allowing the 6-point socket to achieve maximum engagement.
Product Features
- Modified 17mm socket
- Designed for certain early 1993 BMW Single VANOS units
- Machined flat to remove the standard socket bevel
- Full-depth 6-point engagement
- Designed for VANOS piston removal and installation
- Helps prevent slipping or damaging the shallow fastener
- Eliminates the need to grind or machine your own socket
- Reusable for future VANOS rebuilds
- Perfect companion to our Single VANOS rebuild kits
Early 1993 Application
This 17mm modified socket is specifically intended for early 1993 Single VANOS units that use the smaller 17mm piston fastener.
Later Single VANOS units typically require our Modified 18mm VANOS Socket instead.
Always verify the fastener size on your VANOS unit before ordering, especially on 1993 vehicles where production changes may affect which socket is required.
The Right Tool for Early Single VANOS Rebuilds
Instead of grinding down a standard 17mm socket yourself, this specialty socket comes pre-modified and ready to use. The flat face provides the engagement needed to properly remove and reinstall the VANOS piston while making your rebuild faster and easier.
A simple specialty tool that belongs in your toolbox when servicing an early 1993 BMW Single VANOS unit.
I can also make the 17mm and 18mm descriptions shorter and nearly identical in structure so they look consistent next to each other on the Shopify store.
