M52TU | M54 Dual VANOS Rebuild Kits

The Dual VANOS system found on BMW’s M52TU and M54 engines is a more advanced evolution of the earlier Single VANOS design, providing continuously variable control of both the intake and exhaust camshafts. Controlled by the engine’s DME, the system uses engine oil pressure, two solenoids, and internal pistons with helical gearing to independently advance or retard each camshaft based on engine speed, load, throttle position, and temperature. By continuously optimizing valve timing and overlap, Dual VANOS helps produce stronger low- and mid-range torque, smoother idle, improved throttle response, better fuel economy, and reduced emissions, while maintaining strong performance at higher RPM. The M52TU introduced this fully variable Dual VANOS design to BMW’s regular-production inline-six engines, and the system was carried over and further utilized throughout the M54 engine family.
