BMW M52TU / M54 Dual VANOS Rebuild Kit — Stage 3

For a more complete overhaul of your BMW's Dual VANOS system, our Stage 3 M52TU / M54 Dual VANOS Rebuild Kit combines upgraded piston seals, anti-rattle components, an OEM VANOS sealing gasket, and two piston housing seals into one comprehensive package.

BMW's Dual VANOS system independently adjusts both the intake and exhaust camshaft timing, helping the M52TU and M54 deliver the smooth torque, throttle response, and drivability these engines are known for. Unfortunately, the original VANOS seals deteriorate with age, mileage, and repeated heat cycles.

As the seals wear, the VANOS pistons can no longer maintain proper oil pressure and effectively control camshaft timing. Common symptoms can include loss of low-RPM torque, hesitation, uneven power delivery, poor throttle response, VANOS-related fault codes, and reduced overall performance.

In addition to seal wear, Dual VANOS units can develop mechanical wear in the bearing assemblies. This creates the familiar VANOS rattle, often described as sounding like marbles or rocks rattling around at the front of the engine.

Our Stage 3 kit takes the rebuild beyond the basic seals and anti-rattle repair by adding the OEM VANOS sealing gasket and piston housing seals, giving you a more complete solution while the VANOS unit is already removed and disassembled.

What About VANOS Rattle?

Stage 3 is designed to address both seal deterioration and VANOS rattle.

M52TU and M54 Dual VANOS units can develop wear within the bearing assemblies over time. This can create a metallic rattling noise from the front of the engine, commonly described as marbles or rocks rolling around inside the VANOS unit.

The included two anti-rattle bushing sets provide the components needed to service both bearing assemblies while the VANOS unit is apart.

This kit is designed for BMW models equipped with M52TU and M54 Dual VANOS inline-six engines. Engine availability and production dates can vary by market.

Note: BMW model years, production dates, and engine configurations vary by market. Some chassis transitioned to newer engines during their production run, so we recommend verifying that your vehicle is equipped with an M52TU or M54 engine before ordering.

This kit is not intended for the earlier M50TU/M52 Single VANOS system or the later N52/N54-series VANOS systems.
