BMW introduced the M62TU with single VANOS on the intake camshafts for the 1999 model year. The system uses engine oil pressure to adjust intake camshaft timing, helping improve low- and mid-range torque, fuel economy, emissions, and overall drivability.

As these engines age, the original VANOS seals can harden and wear, allowing internal oil pressure to leak past the seals. This can reduce the VANOS system's ability to properly control camshaft timing and contribute to poor performance, fault codes, and uneven engine operation.

Upgraded VANOS Seals

Our rebuild kit uses upgraded FKM (Viton) O-rings in place of the original-style Buna rubber. FKM provides improved resistance to engine heat, oil, and long-term deterioration, making it an excellent material for rebuilding an aging M62TU VANOS system.

The kit also includes upgraded PTFE/Teflon sealing rings designed to replace the worn original VANOS seals and restore proper internal sealing.
