BMW M52TU / M54 Dual VANOS Torx Bolt Replacement Set
Replace the small but critical hardware inside your BMW Dual VANOS unit with our M52TU / M54 Dual VANOS Torx Bolt Replacement Set.
These Torx bolts are used within the Dual VANOS assembly found on BMW M52TU and M54 engines. During a VANOS rebuild or repair, the original bolts may be damaged, stripped, or broken during removal, especially if their unusual thread direction is overlooked.
If you're already rebuilding your VANOS unit, replacing questionable or damaged hardware is an inexpensive way to help ensure everything goes back together correctly.
Kit includes 2 replacement T30 Torx bolts.
⚠️ IMPORTANT — LEFT-HAND THREAD
These VANOS Torx bolts are LEFT-HAND THREADED. (T30 SIZE)
This means they loosen in the opposite direction of a conventional bolt:
TURN CLOCKWISE TO LOOSEN.
TURN COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO TIGHTEN.
Do NOT attempt to loosen these bolts by turning them counterclockwise. Doing so actually tightens the bolt and can cause the small Torx bolt to snap off inside the VANOS assembly.
Take extra care during removal and make sure anyone working on the VANOS unit is aware of the reverse thread before applying force.
Why Replace Your VANOS Torx Bolts?
These bolts are removed during certain Dual VANOS repair and rebuild procedures. After years of service, previous repairs, or improper removal attempts, the original hardware can become damaged.
Common reasons for replacement include:
- Damaged or rounded Torx heads
- Broken original bolts
- Previous improper removal attempts
- Corrosion or damaged threads
- Replacement during a complete VANOS rebuild
- Preventative replacement while the VANOS is already disassembled
Having a fresh set on hand can also prevent a small piece of hardware from bringing your entire VANOS rebuild to a stop.
Designed for M52TU & M54 Dual VANOS
These replacement Torx bolts are designed for BMW's M52TU and M54 Dual VANOS inline-six engines.
The M52TU introduced BMW's Dual VANOS system to many non-M inline-six models, allowing the engine management system to continuously adjust both the intake and exhaust camshaft timing. The system was carried over and further used throughout the M54 engine family.
Fitment Guide
Fits BMW models equipped with M52TU and M54 Dual VANOS engines. Model years and engine availability can vary by market and production date.
